Good way to start the year, but new David Bowie album comes out Friday....so in on that.

No shit? I will check that out.

Dr. Dog has a new album coming out that is apparently retooled stuff from an early demo, and they posted their first track last night on FB. I liked it - it sounds like early DD for sure... refreshing compared to the weird shit they have put out there the last two albums.

Speaking of, Dr. Dog is playing with Shakey Graves at Stubbs in April. Not knowing much about the former I am giving them a listen right now. Cannot say I am enjoying it.

Checking out Bowie now. Not digging the opening track.

Saw the news this morning that Mr. Bowie is no longer with us. I had no idea that he was sick.
why don't you run back to the sandbox where the rest of the kids are playing so the adults can have a discussion...it's over there....you see Howie, he's over there with PMS knocking over other kids sandcastles...looks like fun.

Drew killed him with that harsh review. ;)

I read that he had an 18 month battle with cancer, but that it wasn't publicized.

Skimmed a list of Grammy nominees. Saw that Megan Treanor was nominated for Best New Artist. Didn't she start putting music out a long time ago? Same for Courtney Barnett. I saw her at FFFFest a couple years ago.

The rules are vague but if they haven't released a full length album then they're pretty much eligible.

But then you also have Lauryn Hill winning in 1999 despite being in the Fugees for 7 years and multiple albums.

Have you seen Electric Church? It's a documentary about his set at the Atlanta Pop Festival right before he died. Great performance.

Avett Bros and George Strait made special surprise appearances at Ray Bensons bday party concert last night. Talk about missing out! Uggghh! My buddy Prado was there and said there probably wasn't even 1000 people there.

So the Old 97's cover album is out: https://open.spotify.com/album/5qwXhP8jl4IRKI5Ie6gt8Z

The highlights to me:

Salome - The O's
Rollerskate Skinny - Kelly Willis
Valentine - Death Ray Davies
Let's Get Drunk and Get it On - Hayes Carll (outstanding)

Jesus... Most of that is hot garbage water. I liked the Valentine, Salome and Melt Show covers and don't need to hear any of the rest ever again.

Halfway through it. Melt Show, Salome and Let's Get Drunk are solid. I like Shinyribs' take on Victoria. Though the others were bad and Rollerskate was awful.

Yeah started thinking he looked familiar during the show, and then my buddy told me that.

Thumbs up for the new Weezer. I don't like it as much as I liked their last album on the first listen, but they're on a roll.
