Is it too early for linen? White linen?

Postby LMQueen on Wed Apr 16, 2008 7:44 pm

I am working on my packing spreadsheet (don't ask) for the Nelson and I'm curious if it is okay to wear linen shorts or skirts as early as next weekend?

I have a pair of Lucky orange linen shorts and a white linen skirt that I might throw in the mix.

White sucks.

It gets dirty too easily.

I have 1 white and 2 white/cream tommy bahama silk shirts that I dread wearing. If I wear white its bound to get some kinda f'ing stain on it soon after i put it on. I should probably soak the damn things overnight in coffee or tea. Problem solved.

it is after Easter, so go for it.

Having said that, be prepared to throw them away after a weekend at the golf tourney because of the things Peabody mentioned.

I wore white shorts last year and managed not to get them dirty. It is a risk you take though!

I'm OK with this....

If you were just out and about on the town, I might be hesitant to say yes. However, golf tournaments like the Nelson are a different matter and not subject to normal fashion calendars.

Case in point, when I went to The Masters 6 years ago, I gladly wore the seersucker even though we still hadn't reached the Easter/Memorial Day landmarks.

Strut your white linen and stay away from drinking Cape Cods!

Linen is perfectly appropriate between Easter and Labor Day. :)

Go for it!

Wait a minute... Isn't this supposed to be the board where Robbi answers our fashion-related questions??!!

Also, I know you said not to ask, but what exactly does your packing spreadsheet entail?

I'll be wearing white one day that weekend! :)

Definitely acceptable.
why don't you run back to the sandbox where the rest of the kids are playing so the adults can have a discussion...it's over there....you see Howie, he's over there with PMS knocking over other kids sandcastles...looks like fun.

Remember, the traditional fashion rules were not created for Texas, but for the Northeastern climate. Labor Day seems to work fine in the summer, but it is impossible to abide by the Memorial Day code. Easter is a much more appropriate date for Texans.

The rule as I heard it was specifically set to white shoes...

Linen is a spring and summer fabric, so it is appropriate during those seasons, and even into very early fall. ESPECIALLY in Texas as it is a cooler-feeling fabric.

The "white" rules of fashion have definitely relaxed so that now you can wear white year-round as long as the fabrics are appropriate for the season.

Most traditional white high-heeled pumps are tacky. Tread with caution should you choose a white shoe. Pardon the pun.

And I'm dying to hear about the spreadsheet! I have my own packing system, but I'm always looking for ways to improve it. It's the only way to ensure I am prepared for every event while on vacation!

I'll start a new thread regarding the packing spreadsheet.

Blatant "Matt wants to know if he can wear white linen to The Byron, but doesn't want to wrap up gay thread of the year in April, so he had Robbi ask" thread.

They're not that bad if your job involves a pole.
