My first Cargo Shorts

Postby Mr. Peabody on Thu Jul 05, 2007 2:12 pm

Good bye pleated Khaki Shorts.

I went to old navy to buy some pleated khaki shorts which are the main staple of my summer wardrobe. sonofabitch! There are none. That's were I use to buy them. Now all they have is cargo shorts. damn! I'm kinda pissed. I tell my wife when I get home, and she celebrates kind of. She is glad that I can't buy pleated khaki shorts. She says they are so 80s. BS. I go back and buy a pair at Old Navy. Today is the 1st day that I've ever owned a pair of cargo shorts. I also bought a pair at American Eagle.

If anyone has any suggestions about where to buy or the best fitting, I'm all ears. This is new to me.

I hate cargo shorts.

Way too big, and completely useless.

Old Navy is a good place for cargo shorts.

Banana Republic and Polo have good flat front khaki shorts. Banana will have some cargo shorts, too.

I like cargo shorts. I don't like a wallet on my ass so the cargos give me a nice slot for my wallet on one side and the cell phone on the other. I have about 5 pairs, wear 'em all the time.

HATE cargos... khaki flat or pleated is the way to go.
why don't you run back to the sandbox where the rest of the kids are playing so the adults can have a discussion...it's over there....you see Howie, he's over there with PMS knocking over other kids sandcastles...looks like fun.

Polo Andrew short is about the only ones I wear anymore.

Mix in the Tylers every once in a while, but they are a little too long for my liking.

Cremiux has some nice shorts too.

I like the Andrew too. The only Tyler I have is my Seer Suckers, but I have yet to find any in the Andrew.

Yeah they don't do seersucker Andrews, which sucks.

I'm thinking about taking mine and getting them hemmed to Andrew length.

I used to wear the tylers, but I've sworn off pleated pants forever

Cargo shorts are heavy compared to pleated khaki shorts.

I don't like that.

A buddy of mine said that I can order them online at Old Navy.

I'll go ahead and give my two pair of cargo shorts a try on while on vacation next week.

wtf?

American Eagle has good, lightweight cargos this summer.

I'm a fan of the cargo short.

I've become anti-pleat.

Unless the pants or shorts are the perfect fit, then all a pleat does is make you look fat.

Gimme plain front shorts and pants any day of the week, cargo or regular.

See I think it's the other way around.

Unless you weigh about 160 or less flat fronts make the front of your pants look extremly wide therefore you look like a fat ass.

Not to mention about the only people you ever see wearing flat front pants are guys with shinny shirts with dragons flying down the sides of them and more hair gel than a salon on Oak Lawn running through their hair.

Sorry boys, Chay is right on this one.

Only the skinny/fit can wear flat-front pants.

Those were the good ol' days. I need to lose about 10 lbs before I can get there and I'm not exactly hefty.

Well if you want to look like a 50 year old generic white businessman, continue wearing the pleats.

The Link

To pleat, or not to pleat? - Whether you're a man or a woman it should be noted that you should avoid pleated khakis at all costs if you want to look current and cool in your khakis. Pleats create bulk right around your hips, giving your khakis that baggy, big abdomen look (not so flattering). They also make it seem like you're stuck in the 20th century, since most modern khaki makers leave the pleats out.

Pleats are very traditional, a style that some people subscribe to more than others. While no pleats are considered "hip", it is more of a fad, where as the pleated front has been a staple of higher end designers' lines for years.

My guess is that the pleated front will continue to serve as the classic look that Ralph Lauren and the like continue to get rich on, while the flat front excels with the more urban crowd. I believe that the right person can make both styles work.

Not a fan of the cargo shorts. Too damn complicated with pockets and crap all over the place.

I used to be all pleat with the shorts but have started shifting towards flat-front including my latest pair of Nantucket Reds.

No harm in having a mix of both.
