Just to clarify, it has been reported across the entire Texas recruiting website network (all sites) that Strong stopped active recruiting mid season. Not sure this belongs in the narrative bucket, it's called "the way it is".

Speaking of narrative buckets....

The Monday morning quarterbacks were all retro-critical of Strong's staff hires as being comfort hires based on personal familiarity but then Herman takes that strategy next-level and you same guys call him a genius.

Strong brought only three coaches with him from his previous stops, and the rest were hires he'd never worked with before.

Also, the criticism laid at his initial hires were:

A) it had almost zero ace recruiters among the 9 assistants.

B) his offensive staff was the mother of all cluster fucks, including:

- hiring an OL coach with no coordinator/game planning/play calling experience in his career, and pretending that he was the guy calling the shots.

- hiring a QB coach to ACTUALLY install the scheme/game plan/call plays, while being a subordinate to the pretend OC.

- the QB coach/real OC brought with him a West Coast offensive scheme that was incongruent with both the UT roster, the Big 12 conference, and the thousands of Texas HS recruits.

- Then, if that wasn't enough, Strong removed himself completely from the offense. Like, COMPLETELY. He did not participate in installing the offense, didn't game plan that side of the ball, and didn't oversee play calls on game day. HE DID NOT ATTEND ONE SINGLE OFFENSIVE POSITION MEETING HIS ENTIRE FIRST YEAR AT TEXAS.

Any attempt to compare the two situations, either the two staffs or the decision making process that went into creating them, is either not knowing history or an attempt to rewrite it.

So this latest QC Horny appears to be quite the controversial selection.

Yeah I'm torn here. On one hand I highly doubt a low level QC coach had much to do with the cover up. On the other hand all of his tweets supporting Briles and participating in the #truthdontlie thing makes me question his situational awareness. I can get Kendal Briles and Lebby and those idiots defending their family right or wrong, but why do you participate in that if you're this guy.

Same. Kinda seems like getting mad at the janitor at Enron.

I would like to see it addressed in some manner by him and/or Herman, because if it was just a group mentality that was pretty much forced down him as a lowly intern (basically) that is understandable.

Right there with both of you - both of you framed it much better than I could.

No, it's not that complicated.

Doesn't matter how good the guy is or what he did or didn't do.

You don't hire that guy at Texas just on the perception and PR issues alone.

There is no way to walk this back. It comes off as extreme hypocrisy and the fact that UT won't comment makes it look even worse.

And things were going so well.

No, they guy's tweets are what were stupid. You don't get to tweet "#truthdontlie" and that idiotic thing where the coaches all signed a support letter and then coach at the University of Texas a few months later. Or at least you shouldn't.

Not happy with this hire at all.

Gary Johnson (not that one) commits to Texas. JUCO MILB, have to think he slides in and starts next season.

The assistant director of football operations at Baylor either:

a. Knew about over 50 rapes and sending the Baylor version of the Texas Angels to bang recruits

b. Didn't know about over 50 rapes and sending the Baylor version of the Texas Angels to bang recruits

That means he is either a complete piece of shit or he's incompetent. Either way this guy needs to go.

Because I don't agree that not being aware of something makes someone incompetent.

There was a freaking student trainer who was given a settlement in exchange for an NDA after being sexually assaulted by a player. How would coaching staff not know about that one?
