Texas v. Okie State

Postby McKinneyHorn on Sat Oct 01, 2016 10:17 am

Vance Bedford D seems to be struggling early on. Poor tackling all the way around. Hope we can step up and settle down.

TV can't get our coaches right? Obvious the coordinators are wearing black. Traylor and Gilbert don't look that much alike, imo..

At this point I would take Pee Wee Herman as our coach.

Indefensible. I'm sure the usual suspects will be along to tell us why everything is A-OK shortly though!

I'm not sure we're talented enough to hold anybody under 50

You just need to re calibrate your unreasonable expectations.

Nah, it's over.....I'm off the Charlie-train....if only we had a defensive guru on our staff.

Strong could have used those two weeks between games to do what he's going to do now anyhow - take over DC duties. But instead, he "evaluated" and then hesitated on pulling the trigger. It's analogous to his lousy clock management and adjustments in games. I really want the guy to succeed, but his hesitation to make the right fixes and move on is holding him - and this program - back.

I don't see how demoting Bedford helps the secondary learn how to tackle or our linebackers become functional football players again.

Agreed. This is exactly what I thought when I heard about "Charlie's taking over the defense".

Why in the hell wasn't it his from the start? Isn't he the defense guy? And schemes aren't going to fix tackling problems that start in the offseason.

I'm reminded of the days of Mack's no tackling to avoid injury.
why don't you run back to the sandbox where the rest of the kids are playing so the adults can have a discussion...it's over there....you see Howie, he's over there with PMS knocking over other kids sandcastles...looks like fun.

Texas v. Okie State

This is probably the time to mention that by all accounts our defense was kicking our offense's ass in off-season practices.

That obviously hasn't translated when the lights turned on.

Nobody here has said it so not accusing anybody here at all, but it gets said on IT a lot. Blaming the new offense and the super up tempo practices for the defensive failure is absurd. Just because practice is fast that doesn't mean you forget how to tackle. Not to mention the defense sucked ass last year before we switched to this new system. Totally grasping at straws.

Yeah I don't buy that. If anything it should help since that is the tempo you see in Big 12 play most weeks.

That is a pretty stupid thing to say. IT boards seem to make about as much sense as Shaggybevo.

To me there's no doubt the tempo offense is going to put more pressure on your defense and risk exposing them. That argument feels legit if only because you're seeing so many more plays run, that will translate to more yards and points given up.

HOWEVER.. That does not explain the back end of defense appearing to not know what they're doing....and to not make ANY impactful plays despite getting more chances....and it for damn sure shouldn't lead one to punt with 2 minutes left in a 50-43 game.

In games yes, I agree. I don't think you read my post correctly. I've seen people blaming OUR offense running so many up temp plays in PRACTICE that it's causing OUR defense to suffer.

Yeah that would make no sense. It could only help them there.
