He signed a 4-yr, $24 million contract.

That isn't a realistic option.

I kinda think he would, and feel it's a very realistic option.

You probably have a better chance of getting him than you do Chris Petersen

That grade is generated from the efficiency data from Louisville and the 2014 Texas defense (that had a bunch of NFL upperclassmen talent). It also should be noted that while Bedford had the DC title for these years, it's always been Strong's defense (everything but playcalling). I think Strong's D should be bumped to a C and Bedford's grade dropped to the same grade.

I think this scientific measurement gets it right for the most part, save the odd outliers like Bedford.

No more risky hires and no more chasing non-power-5 guys that have one impressive win on their resume.

The burden of proof should be on you, not Me.

So what I'm hearing is, you don't really have scientific evidence to back this position up.

For the record, most football folks had tons of questions about Strong's ability as a head coach. That's why he got passed over for HC gigs until age 50. And the questions surrounding his coaching skillset set and acumen are the same that Herman excels at... acute attention to detail, incredible organizational skills, elite communication skills. Basically the soft skills that separate good Xs and Os coaches from elite leaders (of a football program or any type of organization).

Whoever we hire we need to do a top to bottom assessment of our football program because this doesn't all lay at the feet of Charlie Strong.

Alabama has damn near a NFL front office while we have like 2 guys.

And the facilities are about 20 years behind, too.

Mak - have you read this yet? I think this might give you some insight to Tom that you might not have had visibility to previously. It gives great context for who the guy wearing the whistle is.

(BTW, note that this was written before he coached his first ever game as a head coach - published September 2015).

That was pretty good.

That article makes him look a lot better than he seems in press conferences and radio interviews.

I think there's something to be said for the Houston players knowing Herman is most likely gone and being in letdown mode as well. Now I know it's his job to get his players up and ready to play, but I think it's at least a plausible possibility. I think you're seeing that here right now as well. They also have some major injuries on defense and the OL right now.
