Masters 2018

Postby U2-Horn on Sun Apr 01, 2018 5:47 pm

It’s here.

Go Tiger.

Also, The Masters has uploaded pretty much every final round broadcast to their YouTube channel. Amazing. I’ve already gone back and watched some of the classic moments of all time in context. Seeing an extra couple of minutes before and after these iconic moments is really cool.

I've watched a few of those. Good stuff. Fun to see the difference in fashion and how much or how little the course has changed over time.

Hopefully the weather cooperates for us on Wednesday.

Don’t know why but I have a feeling that with all the talk of all the big guns being primed for a Masters to remember that we’re going to get some out of nowhere winner like Charl or Willett.

Reed/Leishman followed by eight major winners. Moving day at the Masters.

If rain allows.

Masters 2018

Postby HornMafia on Mon Apr 09, 2018 11:16 pm

Some great pictures of Augusta National in the pre-WWII days here Link ,just scroll back through his timeline for the last month or so. Kinda wild to see that iconic clubhouse as someone's house.

Also, if you like the history of the course, this from Golf Digest a few years back was wonderful. https://www.golfdigest.com/story/the-co ... a-national

The Golf Digest thing is awesome.

I really don’t like how they have evolved #7 and #11. Those are two hardest/scariest/ugliest to the eyes on the tee box holes out there and they keep making them worse.

Let’s take #7. Super tight tee shot so let’s say you hit it 270 in the middle of the fairway (your only chance at that length) now you have a 180 yard shot from a downhill lie to a an uphill elevated green surrounded by bunkers with zero bailout option (other than a front bunker) and one of the toughest greens on the course.
So they are taking away all options and forcing you to hit Driver and then forcing you to hit at whatever crazy hole location they want to give you. So it’s a bomb, gouge, and hope setup. That green seems designed for a much shorter approach and a risk-reward decision hole. I say it’s Way, Way too long at 450 should be 400 max...maybe the 365 it played as a recall in about 1990 and they could probably get away with it as short as 300 yards. Bad hole.

#11...When I was little that Hole was straight I thought and now it’s an awkward dogleg right and you stand on the tee and those tall trees crowd you from the right and terrain tilts the wrong direction....it looks like there is nowhere to hit it. Absolutely one of the worst visuals on a tee box I’ve seen. That’s not even the worst part of the hole. At 500 yards nobody hits it in the left 2/3 of the green so it becomes a bad spectator hole when it could be a great one if presented at a length where there was some probability of reward for hitting it at the left side hole locations. I say take take it back to 440-470 range.

#1 is bullshit too.

Also the other 15 holes are awesome.

Yeah. I did a lot of reading/listening prior to this Masters and those were the two most often criticized holes. They have taken what could be great holes and made them were the whole field shoots the same two first shots.

http://www.friedegg.co/golf-courses/aug ... al-changes

They need to take the trees out of 11, would make that hole great again.
