Biggio. No word yet if his plaque will actually be a picture of an elbow guard.

I cannot see or hear the name Craig Biggio without thinking about Drew screaming "DOOOOOON'T TALK BAD ABOUT MY BOOOOOY CRAIG BIGGIO" at the top of his lungs at Trudy's shortly followed by the manager telling us to pipe down or GTFO.

I was talking at lunch with a friend of mine who was hating on Biggio. We were talking about padding stats. I couldn't think of a stat you can pad in baseball that matters. Its not like feeding the ball over and over to a player in bball or football looking for points or yards.
Short of collusion with opposing teams, all meaningful stats really are earned, especially pitchers. am I right? I guess RBIs could be padded based on lineups, but you still have to hit the ball.

RBI is a pretty worthless stat, IMO.

And you can pad hits at the expense of AVG (most likely what said individual is accusing Biggio of), which in and of itself is not completely out of bounds, given that some people have a very skewed outlook on the 3000 plateau. Biggio hung around two years too long to reach 3000, but he was a HOFer without the 3000 hits when you look at the full body of work.

I'm sure one of our Dallas friends will be along soon to say that I am wrong but there are any number of statistical summaries out there that show him to be one of the top 10 second baseman to ever play the game, and at his peak (93-01, but especially 94-99) he was putting up eye-popping numbers. In his later years he recreated himself as a pretty one-dimensional pull hitter, but the guy could play ball like few others.

As much as I like to F with Astros fans about Biggio I think he is HOF worthy. I will say I think some of his stats, and other guys too, are skewed by the fact that he played 20 seasons. Like Drew alluded to on the 3000 hits thing.

Starbucks barista showed up to work today, took my order, swiped card, and handed me black coffee. Now eligible for hall of fame. Didn't even wear swat team protective gear.
