I would say I like our chances but Barnes has beaten a higher seed once, in Dallas, with TJ Ford at PG.

If you trust the metrics this is as even a first round matchup as there is. Texas is 3 spots ahead of Butler in the Pomeroy rankings, 2 behind in ESPN BPI and 1 behind in Sagarin. It's a total toss up which means it's all on Barnes.

He's coming back. No insider info or any info. Gut instinct call.

Possibly true, but I refuse to believe that it is.

He's more likely to quit voluntarily than be retained, IMO.

Hang on a second....

This is probably a terrible question, but what is up with his left ear ? I never noticed that before but just saw it in an older picture too....

How much money can we throw at Marshall.....whatever that number is, which I assume is somewhere between "whatever we want" and "three times what he's making now", then let's just quit dicking around and do it.

That guy is the business.

'Bama!?!

Your move Steve Patterson.

Thanks for memories Rick.....but it was time.

Sounds like it's either Marshall or Smart.....I'm honestly fine with both. If I had to pick one, I'm not sure who it would be. I also really like Mark Few, but I don't think he's going anywhere. It sounds like both Marhsall and Smart have strong interest in the job, so don't fuck it up Patterson.

Random thought, but how awesome would Jeff Van Gundy be!!??!!! :-k

Just kidding.

I lean slightly towards Marshall. I think he's more adaptable than Smart is. Smart needs a certain kind of player to run his press system. If they land either it'll be a home run.

Wait a minute.. Don't standard operating procedures require us to spend a few weeks salivating over reports that Calipari is DEFINITELY coming and was seen house shopping in Lakeway before Marshall or Smart are brought on board?

At $9mm per year, he won't have to live in Lakeway.

Let's go with Tarrytown

It sure sounds like it is going to be Shaka Smart.

Can't get much better than that.

At this point, that's my preference.....either him or Nick Saban.

Patterson is meeting with Smart today in Richmond. Smart is a very loyal guy who loves his players so while he's reportedly being encouraged to take the job by colleagues this isn't the slam dunk we all hope it would be. Not sure Patterson is the guy I want trying to make this happen...

No way! Anything less than a triumvirate of Phil Jackson, Roy Williams and Tom Izzo is completely unacceptable for UT. If Smart is the best we can do let's just disband the basketball program!

In addition to the checkbook, Patterson may want to also bring some fill-in-the-blank blueprints for a new state-of-the-art BB arena to the meeting as well.

Gut feeling here, but this sure looks like I think it would look if this deal was about to blowup in Patterson's face.

Would be very embarrassing for Patterson if he doesn't get Shaka Smart

On an unrelated note.... I don't know Steve Patterson, but I don't like him at all. I'm not sure why, just find him generally unlikeable.
