2014 Texas Rangers Season Thread

So...Bovada came out the other day with an O/U of 86.5...thoughts?

My first thought is they'll go over that easily, but the starting pitching for this thing scares me, especially if Harrison misses significant time.

Over.

Seems like 89.5-90.5 should be the number.

88 or 89 is a better o/u, so I'm taking the over. Even with Holland injury and Harrison iffy to begin season, the Rangers still have the best rotation and pen in the division. Oh, and offense.

I think 90 wins is the target, and while the W/L column won't reflect it (because division overall got better), I think this Rangers team is better than the last couple of rosters.

Better rotation than Oakland?

This week in Former Ranger News:

Former Ranger and notable douchebag CJ Wilson took a ball off the head during live batting practice. The batter responsible? Former Ranger great Yorvit Torrealba.

Also, former Ranger and fellow douche/Angel teammate Josh Hamilton has 1. decided that he only needs his "accountability partner" when he is on the road and 2. Strained a calf and is on crutches. Hopefully there aren't any Sherlocks locations in LA.

So Kinsler is pretty much the POS I always thought he was.

I think Norm pretty much nailed it... The Rangers are so terrible for asking the guy that's been around for years and pulls down $15 million a year to be a leader. I hope they give him one in the earhole the first time he steps up to the plate in Arlington.

They were also very clear with him when they signed him to the extension that they wanted him to move positions eventually. But now he bitches about it. Whatever dude.

No word on if he was picked off 1st during the interview?

It's weird. In the past four years, Texas has been at the top, but no one says, 'What a great organization.'"

Um, pretty much everybody in baseball calls them a great organization, amirite?

"Daniels is a sleazeball," he says. "He got in good with the owners and straight pushed Ryan out. He thought all the things he should get credit for, Ryan got credit for. It's just ego. Once we went to the World Series, everybody's ego got huge, except for Nolan's."

I loves me some Nolan, but Nolan's ego pushed Nolan out.

Something is definitely up in the Rangers front office/clubhouse. I can't remember the last free agent they actually resigned. And everyone that leaves hates on the team when they leave.

Yeah. It's a real damn shame that the Rangers didn't get the pleasure of paying Hamilton north of $20 million a year. Cunt Juice wanted to be in LA. Lee wanted more years than the Rangers were willing to give if I recall correctly. The Rangers should be just like Anaheim and hand out terrible contracts like candy so that people won't talk about how they have "a front office problem."

Hamilton, yes. The others could be argued. It's just odd is all.

The guys they want...they lock up well before they get to free agency. Then, instead of giving guys big contracts again as they enter their decline...they cut them loose.

I'm a very casual observer. What about Napoli? Was he traded?

Going into free agency, he had a pretty bad year production-wise and a significant injury (that caused his initial $39M deal with Boston to be negated). Texas tried to resign him before both contracts with Boston, and the Rangers were the only other team that he considered, but Boston made a more lucrative offer on both occasions. He had great things to say about the team, fans, and front office the entire time.

The only 3 people who have bashed the front office were Hamilton, MY, and Kins.

Hamilton has proved he wasn't worth what he was demanding.

MY bitched about declining playing time and has no retired because he isn't productive anymore. Front office sucks right?

Kins as I documented last year several times was very replaceable. He's an average defender on his best day, sucks dick at batting lead off, and constantly fell asleep on the bases. Now I think he was a good clubhouse guy, but maybe I'm even wrong on that now. He was getting paid $17 million a year and was the longest tenured Ranger, but had a problem being asked to be a leader? Fuck off. He was told when he signed the extension that they would eventually ask him to move positions because of Profar. Now he had a problem with that. Whatever. Guess he forgets that the only reason he ever saw the field in Texas is because the exact same thing was done to Sorinano. Sori refused to move spots so he was traded. Get over yourself.

I think what you see here is 3 guys who want to be able to make business decisions and get paid, but when the club made their own business decisions they got their panties in a wad and went sour grapes.
