Evan,

Are you going to pick a new team next year or will you try to follow Sunderland on their road back from AAA Soccer?

7 points out of last 9, including a draw against city and a win against Chelsea (how embarrassing that must be for drew and Ben!), and suddenly we are out of relegation by the skin of our arses! Three games left, plenty of time to f this up still

Nah, I am pretty pumped. 3 points down with a game in and and a solid lead in goal differential. Take care of business and win the league.

SAFE! Hooray for not being one of the 3 worst teams! Haway the lads!

this was just an awful season to pick this team and start watching EPL, but the last 5 weeks have been downright thrilling... 4 wins and a draw, and we came damn close to beating City... As the british announcers so artfully say, this was the greatest of the great escapes

Okay, not making any promises, but might try to give this a try again, if nothing else to make the offseason shorter.

What sites can I follow this with? I picked Arsenal last time, keeping my options open here.

Ha.

I subscribed to the Man City Bleacher Report list so I get an email damn near every day with updates, rumors and such. I also read the Man City Reddit board, though I hate the format there. The Shaggy threads are pretty good, too, but it gets overwhelming quickly for those of us still learning the game.

New season starts weekend of August 16, so not much runway before the Horns start up again, but the early morning games help prevent too much overlap. I know City and United are playing summer exhibitions here in the US, starting in late July, and those games are usually fun because no one plays defense and they tend to attack a lot. City and Chelsea played a wild one last year in Chicago.

I'd suggest watching some of the WC games - especially the Euro teams, if you're still thinking EPL - to see if you gravitate toward any specific players (though most of the world's best players play in Europe). La Liga has probably taken over as the best league but they're much more top-heavy than EPL and they don't get as much tv exposure. Every EPL game is televised by NBC (NBCSN or alternate channels).

I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I have. Each season - and really, each competition, club or national - has been more must-watch for me than the previous one over the past three years. EPL was a three-way race until the final week and had the added bonus of Manchester United going 2010 Mack Brown and not qualifying for Euro league play in the first time in forever. La Liga also came down to the last day, and featured both Champions League finalists. Winning last year's Gold Cup was fun and the WC qualifying was pretty intense.

The WC itself has been superb through the first round of games, with really only 1-2 stinkers that I have seem. And two years from now we get Euros, which is actually a better overall tourney, because they don't have crappy Oceania/Asian and Caribbean teams (or, sadly, the US).

Now that all of the games are all on NBC, just watch games until you find a team whose style of play you like. Let your team pick you.

Yeah I watched a bit on Saturday mornings this spring. If anyone is up watching TV on Saturday mornings it is me, I'll just have to fight Jackson for the remote.

Ha. They don't broadcast the Community Shield, do they? I think it'll be in two weeks.

Technically, Haymaker is home to the Austin Blues, the Chelsea supporters club, and the Austin Gooners call The Tavern home. I believe Haymaker eventually progressed to be open for all EPL games, and developed a pretty good following for other fans (definitely had a ton of City fans for the final day). I've joined some Arsenal friends at The Tavern for a couple of games, and while the camaraderie and atmosphere is great, cramming people into the upstairs (the choice of most of their group) gets a little cramped to me. Arsenal fans are definitely pumped about ending the trophy drought and the signing period so far--should be a ton of enthusiasm to start the new season.

Knowing more friends are throwing their support to Arsenal is giving me even more to think about....
I have no problem with people like Smooth who know what they believe and why they believe it - even if it is different than I.--UTwiz

What can I say? My ass still hurts from the +60 goal differential they rolled up on Spurs this year.
