Anyone else dread going to a fast food restaurant that has a "special" person working there?

One that might not know the social mores of getting your food, eating it really fast and getting the hell out of there ASAP? One that wants to talk your head off?

haven't seen that in a long time, but years ago Chris and I ate at Taco Bell on Braker/183 about once a week and they had two of them that would walk around collecting trays and they would always come over to talk. It was always very awkward.

There's a special dude at Firehouse Subs on McNeil that takes sandwiches from the counter to people's tables. If you do not respond quickly enough when he calls your name, you usually get a snide remark. I hope I am there on the day that he does that to the wrong person and they get up and choke his retarded ass out.

No argument there, Robbi. I certainly don't have a problem with it, but it is definitely still awkward.

Kevin- I don't know that the Firehouse guys is "special." I've always had the feeling he may just be a little slow, and quite possible an asshole.

Never really gotten it at fast food places, but when we were in Dallas it seemed like all the Kroger stores employed special needs folks to be baggers. And they always wanted to chat up every customer and like others, I really just want to be left alone and not trying to engage anyone in conversation.

I find the overall lack of good customer service so glaring in fast food joints these days that honestly I don't take notice of any "special" employees. Looking back on my youth when I worked in fast food joints, I recall coworkers who were hired from special homes, etc, as a pathway to greater independent living. I honestly don't recall that they had any more quirks than most of the so-called "normal" coworkers. I do recall that they tended to be more hard working and appreciative of the job opportunity than most of the ass hats who pissed and moaned all shift about how much they hated having to work there (as if they had been forced to take the job and didn't know what they were signing up for).

I guess I'm the oddball. I find it strange when I go to Chic Fil A and get service like I'm the President. Seems unnatural to me to be so happy and efficient while serving me food.

There is a Mazzios I eat at sometimes. They have a retard girl that hovers over you. When it is busy, the only table left is next to where she hovers. She always hovers in the same spot. I've gotten stuck at the table more than a few times. She makes my entire dining experience suck.

Better, the "R" word is the equivalent to using the "N" word where I work.

Person first language is how you are supposed to describe people now.

For example, instead of "the blind girl" you would say "the girl who is blind" or "the girl with a visual impairment."

I am offended by the use of the word blind. The proper way to refer to refer to this person would be" the girl who is differently abled with regards to sight."
