2017 Music

A hit-or-miss hodgepode of hyperbolicism...

I'm gonna have to pay for a Lorde ticket if I want to see RTJ? Fuck that. They should be headlining their own tour.

I would do a top 10 list but I don't think I listened to 10 albums that came out in 2017. Will Johnson, Old 97s, Greta Van Fleet, The Black Angels, All Them Witches, and Wolf Alice are the only things that come to mind as far as things I liked go. I think I am entering a Rhyner-esque musical dark age.

Listened to a lot that didn't do much for me, but liked enough of the following to say I liked them on the whole:

Isbell, Old 97s, Liam Gallagher, Foo Fighters, New Pornographers, Grizzly Bear, Gorillaz, LCD Soundsystem, Broken Social Scene, Alvvays, QotSA, Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Vulfpeck.

Reading that depresses me a bit because most of them were B albums (at best) from artists I love.

My list of disappointments: Arcade Fire, Fleet Foxes, The Killers.

I feel like I just dabbled with some bands I really like, so not sure whether I disliked them or was just not feeling the first 1-2 listens: Conor Oberst, Courtney Barnett-Kurt Vile, Son Volt, Toadies, Jake Bugg, War on Drugs.

All in all not a particularly memorable year for me, but outside of baseball I spent the first half of the year in a funk because of work, and the last two months in a daze from caring for - and then grieving for - two dying dogs.

Still have a lot of stuff to revisit/explore.

If I had to go with one sign as my favorite i'd go Isbell (and I hated the first listen on it).
