2015 SXSW

Postby HornMafia on Sat Feb 28, 2015 5:57 pm

I think enough of us are going to be in on Friday to warrant a separate thread.

You guys like Delta Spirit, right? I see they are playing at 10 AM at the Four Seasons: http://2015.do512.com/kutxliveatthefour ... ythree2015

Costs $10, but hey you get a coffee and a breakfast taco.

Anything like that involving a band that can play one level below the headliners at any of the major festivals will be a total clusterfuck.

Viet Cong is my must see band this year.

Pandora Discovery Den RSVP is up. That is one that I know for a fact requires an RSVP/wristband.

I followed the link on FB and it took me to the playlist, but I didn't see anywhere to rsvp.

I'm going to have to throw a penalty flag for using a hashtag while mocking someone's use of social media.

I thought you didn't like them. I really liked their first album a few years ago but was not as hot on the most recent one. May give it another whirl and see if it motivates me to make that show. Hotel San Jose is a cool spot.

Only been to Hotel San Jose once. It was on Saturday a few years ago when SXSW Saturday and St. Patrick's Day were the same day. That took the "I'm only here to check in at places on Facebook so that people know that I am 'doing SXSW', take selfies and talk over the bands playing" bullshit to an insane level. Hopefully that never happens again.

Sweet. We normally wind up at Swan Dive at some point anyway.

Sounds like early Liz Phair before she decided to try and become a shitty pop star.

OK. So what is the plan for meeting up on Friday? I believe Matt and Robbi are heading down for the Delta Spirit thing early. I will be getting in line for the Spin thing early so I can catch Viet Cong and then bail out of there before noon. Drew.. What are your plans?

The guy from Old Crow Medicine Show and Surfer Blood play back to back at Swan Dive mid-afternoon and then I will probably either head up to Hole In The Wall for Speedy Ortiz or go check out Quiet Company, who is playing somewhere along Congress, around 5. Run The Jewels plays at Stubbs around 4:30 or 5, so there's also that.

Depending on work - which could very well delay my plans if not cancel them altogether - my plan is to catch an Uber around 12ish and meet Chris and Steph and that group at Red Eyed Fly. From there I have no idea what happens.

It's supposed to be rainy and I'm not standing outside to watch anything in the rain.

To be perfectly honest, I am content just hanging out and having a good time and not making any kind of plans. If I get to see a cool show then great, but I am not motivated to go to any specific place or whatnot. Not being at work is the thing I care about most.

Our train will get us downtown just before 9:00. We can meet anybody anywhere.
Looks like we are going to need rain boots and ponchos.

Oh shit. Just checked the forecast. Looks like things have changed in the past day or so. I thought we were going to be in the clear.

SXSW is fun and all, but I think I am out on this. The forecast looks shitty, pretty much everything I want to see is outside and I am not blowing a vacation day standing around and drinking.
