New song from the new Belle and Sebastian album. They've totally gone off the rails over the course of their last couple albums. The world already has enough shitty synth pop bands. They didn't need to go and become one too.

The Dr. Dog live album should be pretty good. They have their version of Architecture in Helsinki's "heart it Races," which I think is vastly superior to the original.

Yeah.. There's a song from the new Faith No More floating around. Kind of odd, but most of their stuff is. Looking forward to the new album.

Not sure I like the idea of this. That chick's voice is the aural equivalent of watching paint dry.

Blast from the past... D'angelo, of "Brown Sugar" fame back in the 90s, has a new album out. They played one of the tracks this morning on KUTX and I dug it. Listening to the full album now, and it's pretty good. It's getting me through a lot of Excel work, and for that I am greatful.

Thumbs up for the new Decemberists album. There's some stuff with the arrangement/production of a few songs that sounds overly fussy and forced and there are a few places that sound like rehashes of stuff from previous albums, but the good outweighs the not so good.

I gave The Decemberists a few listens and it's good. I'm sure it will stay in rotation for a while.

The Belle & Sebastian isn't all terrible (though their "shitty synth pop" tracks were really shitty), but there's nothing altogether good about it either.

Went back and listened to a ton of Decemberists stuff after listening to the new album. It's ridiculous how good their catalog up through Hazards of Love is.

Here is Seth Avett and that broad who can't sing worth a shit sucking the life out of "Somebody That I Used To Know." Link

Here's the original for comparative purposes:

About through with my first trip through the new Father John Misty. I either really like or really dislike every song. Not much in between on this one.

Jason Isbell's plans for the next few months:

Q: What are your plans for your next record?

A: I've written almost all of it now. I have 13 to 15 songs that are either finished or almost finished. I'll be writing on the road in February too. We'll record in Nashville in March for about three weeks, so hopefully we'll have the album out by late summer. It doesn't take long. I don't believe in spending months (recording) a CD. We'll go in and knock it out.

Between that and Modest Mouse and Built To Spill coming out of lengthy recording hibernations over the next couple months, this is shaping up to be a pretty solid year.

I've been on a serious Isbell and DBT bender the last couple days, so this news pleases me.

Isbell might be the only artist mentioned on this board in the last five years that is actually worth listening to. So this is indeed good news.

New Blur album coming out in April. Didn't know they were working on one, so cool.

This year's edition of Fader Fort at SXSW is invite only. What a bunch of cunts.

I got a wristband for that every year from 2009 through 2013 and didn't attend it a single time. Always felt like a clusterfuck that was not near anything else. So I guess this news does not hit home for me.

I'm with you on that. I just get a kick out of something that's been free for everybody spontaneously going invite only.

I am probably in for Friday and Saturday at most this year.

I am Friday-only after missing 40% of February for the wedding/honeymoon. Looks like the Craigs are probably going to join as well.
