I'm in on Taylor Swift back in Arlington next year on Oct 17.

And if Kenny Chesney plays another beach show in Florida next Summer, I will be there.

I admit to watching the Grohl/Austin deal like 4 times and part of me wishes I was into some of that less popular music they celebrate. But I really don't know where to start. That dude Gary Clark(?) seemed cool. What bars does he play at ?

He is not so hard up for an audience that he needs to whore himself out on a terrible show.

I figured Isbell has had record deals that would not make him eligible for that sort of contest. That's why it sounded silly to me.

I've never seen Gary Clark, but I would like to.

Dnt know if you are trolling, but I'll chime in. I agree about less popular music. A long time ago, like 99 I saw bowling for soup open for tonic at lucys. No one had heard b of them but they were awesome. I followed them around that summer. That's the only time I've ever liked something that wasn't mainstream. I tried to listen to kgsr and the alt stations on serous but nothing stuck. I must not get it. guess I just like stuff that gets airplay.
I'm. Also all in on Taylor Swift. As a parent there is nothing better. Her songs are catchy and I din't have to worry about what my kids might hear when listening.

I liked Gary Clark's album (guessing his only full release?). Was surprised to see him on Sonic Highways and learn he does not read music. I suspect he puts on a great live show, but short of SXSW or ACL (every third or fourth year) and the occasional Kanye/Jay-Z/Old 97s show, I don't see as much live music as I used to back in the day.

Leonard, we're well aware that you only like mainstream music. You wear it like a badge. More power to you if that's your bag.

Meh, words are just words. I have no filter on my music when the kids (8 and 10) are in the car. They get the full-on, non-censored stuff.

Gary Clark Jr is way bigger than playing bars. He plays Stubb's, House of Blues, etc.

So cool story about that Austin episode I read in an interview. Gary Clark just came down to shoot the interview scenes with Grhol. Didn't bring a guitar or anything wasn't planning on playing. They asked him to play and he was like ah I don't have anything. So Chris Shefilet(sp?) grabs this new Gibson he just got and says here you can play this one I've only played it 2-3 times so give it a whirl. Gary picks it up completely shreds that solo he played on the tract for them and goes to hand it back. Chris told him just keep it, there's no way I can ever make that thing sound like that again.

I've really enjoyed that shoe by the way. The Chicago one with all the Nirvana stuff was pretty great. Loved the Nashville and Austin episodes. Really liked that they took Nashville to task for some of the garbage they are putting out. LA one was kinda meh, but I think they concentrated too much on the desert and Joshua Tree as opposed to Sunset. Joe Walsh seems like a total space cadet these days. Haha.

As to the Isbell question. Like Drew stated he's plenty big nationally to not have to do that. Plus so much of what he, and guys like him, is about is the creative side of it and songwriting. He's not going to lower himself to giving up creative control of his music to something like that.

As someone who enjoys discovering new music I was embarrassed to discover Gary Clark Jr. more than a year after his album came out which is exceptional. The shot a live performance of his for the movie Chef which was a fun little movie. That's how I discovered him. He's phenomenal.

The Sonic Highways TV show has been excellent, it's a shame the album falls short of that.

I'm embarrassed to say I have only seen the Austin and half of the Chicago and LA (the former because I had something come up that I had to do, the latter because I got bored).

Need to check our Nashville for sure, and the others whenever I can get to them.

Yeah the LA one was pretty boring I thought as well. Like I said they concentrated so much on the desert stuff. Which I get a lot of their influences were based out of there, but they kind of just glossed over actual LA. So much more history they could have talked about with Sunset and they never even really touched on any of the ealry stuff like The Beach Boys or anything.

So I have front row tickets to Ryan Adams in two weeks. Part of me really wants to go because I've never seen him live. But part of me worries I'll end up depressed as shit and slitting my wrist. Also judging by stubhub I could sell my seats for about $250 per seat.

I really enjoy the new Weezer, but I am completely in love with the final three tracks, the mostly instrumental Wasteland Trilogy. The orchestrations feel both new and "Weezery." I think it is their best since the Green Album and compares favorably with that release. As deflating as the new Foo release feels, I'm excited to see what a rejuvenated Rivers Cuomo may do over the next few years.

Yeah. Aside from the first track I'm liking the new Weezer. "Da Vinci" is one of my favorite songs of the year and I too dig the Waste Land bit at the end. The show in a few weeks should be fun.

Rivers did an AMA yesterday, which I would link, but we block Reddit at work and it's probably simple to find if anyone were so inclined. He seems to have relaxed over the past decade.
