Book very interesting.

Movie was good. Completely different ending than the book. Made it more exciting. Hooray for Hollywood.

One of these days I need somebody to explain to me why Wes Anderson's movies are so great. No, wait not that. I need someone to explain to me the concepts and principles that make him such a "genius". I couldn't be more lost. I must be missing something. I would rather watch a plate of shit cook in the microwave for 2 hours than see any of the movies he has written or directed. They are so boring and offensive in their blandness and pointless quirkiness that there must be some greater message, spoken in a language that I don't know.

I can't really put my finger on it. The fact that he does a good job putting together a story and a self-contained universe to tell the story in works for me. I can certainly see why his stuff would be offputting though.

As far as the self-contained world thing goes, think about the Back To The Future movies which, if I recall correctly, both of us enjoyed. Hill Valley is where everything happens in all three movies and the history of what has happened there helps shape the story. The setting of Hill Valley is like another character. The same thing goes for Anderson's movies, ie Rushmore Academy or the Tennenbaum house. Creativity and detail like that takes good movies and makes them better/great.

I just keep directing the stuff I post about Anderson's movies at you because LMFZ is at its most entertaining when somebody is absolutely trashing something.

OK...My dislike for his movies is related to the painful convergence of dirty 70's visual style, the most unlikeable characters, and pervasive dysfunction with no hope of redemption whatsoever. it becomes a sort of fantastic negative synergy where 2+2+2 = 1, and the films offer no redeeming value, whatsoever. At all, nothing. Garbage.

Thumbs way up for Grand Budapest Hotel. Anderson's best since Royal Tenenbaums and it's not even close.

That's good to hear. I've only seen Moonrise Kingdom since RT. Never felt compelled enough to see the others for whatever reason, even though I loved his first 3.

I'll have to check it out.
