Went to The XX concert last night......pretty amazing show, and perfect for the Moody Theater. Guess that would actually fall under 2012 music with their new album, but whatever.

Anyway, not sure if there are any Foals fans out there, but their new album "Holy Fire" came out yesterday(and is already on Spotify BTW) and is awesome a la "Total Life Forever"....good stuff.

On that note, they're playing Emo's East on 2/27....tickets go on sale Friday morning.

I think I'm going to go ahead and give The Most Overrated Thing In 2013 Award to Foxygen.

Saw Turnpike Troubadours on Friday. Great Red Dirt band.

Will Johnson of Centromatic fame is contributing some vocals to the new Isbell album. That makes my music wiener throb.

Hmmm... things I like so far this year:

The Joy Formidable, Wolf's Law
Big Boi, Viscious Lies and Dangerous Rumors
Guards, In Guards We Trust
Foxygen, We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace and Magic
Shout Out Louds, Optica
Frightened Rabbit, Pedestrian Verse

Things I do not like:

Jim James (of My Morning Jacket fame), Regions of Light and Sound of God
Local Natives, Hummingbird
Atoms for Peace (Thom Yorke & Co), AMOK
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Push the Sky Away

I would list songs but I have been bad about flagging them, and in the digital age I am terrible about remembering song names.

Count me in the "doesn't get Foxygen" crowd.....gave it a second listen, but just couldn't get into it.

Not sure what that is, but I gave Virginmarys a whirl. The frost listen did nothing or me, but a second one was pretty good workout music.

Meh.

There are a few new Vampire Weekend tracks out there too.

I liked that Strokes song. haven't heard the new VW stuff yet.

Really liking the new Josh Rouse (check it out at Spinner.com, if so inclined) and Wavves. The latter was somewhat surprising because I remember completely apathetic about their last one.

I don't know what it is, but I'm having a terrible time finding new stuff that I really like. The only albums I can think of off the top of my head from the last few years that absolutely floored me are Middle Brother and Father John Misty. It seems like most of what comes out these days is either electronic/synthpop stuff or milquetoast treble-heavy pop stuff like Cayucas and bands like that. Also, the audio diarrhea put out by Mumford and Sons and The Lumineers has ruined the folk revival.

Duuuuuude.....+1, I don't get it......complete and total garbage. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse with Mumford and Sons......I heard The Lumineers.

Are you not into Foals.....new album is great, but not really sure if that's your thing or not.

I like the Lumineers okay. M&S is just redundant, IMO.

I think there's a lot of great stuff out there... maybe it doesn't all "floor me," but so far this year alone I've added almost 300 songs to my 2013 Music playlist on Spotify and moved 10 over to the "Best Of..." playlist (I should not that I'm not always good about flagging those, especially this early in the year).

Not 2013, but I went back and revisited the Dinosaur Jr album that came out last year that I was not wild about at the time and am really enjoying it.

Also not 2013, but I am really digging this song right now:

The new Queens of the Stoneage album is pretty amazing....absolutely love it.

It's almost as good as the new Daft Punk album. Almost.

I thought they were both kind of slow. I've only given the QOTSA one listen though. I like the Pharrell tracks on DP, but not wild about a lot of it.
