haven't heard any of it. Also liking Cults and the new Paul McCartney (kinda surprised there).

I like the new Okkervil River album.

Surprised to hear anything good about the new McCartney album. The last one was embarrassingly bad. I will check it out.

I'm not a Midlake fan.

The new Eminem... did not do much for me through one spin.

Hilarious.......but I don't know what's funnier.......the Franco/Rogen video, or the actual words in the song. I just don't see how anyone with more than a third grade education can listen to that shit and think it's "genius"....or that he is, but to each his/her own I guess. It's fine to be a fan.....everyone has their own taste in music....God knows I like some weird shit, but the dude is a complete moron.

I mean seriously.....read this out loud.....or hell, read it to yourself.

[Hook]Annotate
Bound to fall in love
Bound to fall in love
(Uh-huh, honey)

[Bridge: Kanye West]
All them other niggas lame, and you know it now
When a real nigga hold you down, you supposed to drown
Bound...

[Hook]

[Verse 1: Kanye West]
What you doing in the club on a Thursday?
She say she only here for her girl birthday
They ordered champagne but still look thirsty
Rock Forever 21 but just turned thirty
I know I got a bad reputation
Walking 'round, always-mad reputation
Leave-a-pretty-girl-sad reputation
Start a Fight Club, Brad reputation
I turnt the nightclub out of the basement
I'll turn the plane 'round, your ass keep complaining
How you gon' be mad on vacation?
Dutty wining 'round all these Jamaicans
Uh, this that prom shit
This that what-we-do-don't-tell-your-mom shit
This that red-cup-all-on-the-lawn shit
Got a fresh cut, straight out the salon, bitch

[Bridge: Charlie Wilson]
I know you're tired of loving, of loving
With nobody to love, nobody, nobody (Uh-huh, honey)

[Bridge: Kanye West]
Close your eyes and let the word paint a thousand pictures
One good girl is worth a thousand bitches

[Hook]

[Verse 2: Kanye West]
I wanna fuck you hard on the sink
After that, give you something to drink
Step back, can't get spunk on the mink
I mean damn, what would Jeromey Romey Romey Rome think?
Hey, you remember where we first met?
Okay, I don't remember where we first met
But hey, admitting is the first step
And hey, you know ain't nobody perfect
And I know, with the hoes I got the worst rep
But hey, their backstroke I'm tryna perfect
And hey, ayo, we made it: Thanksgiving
So hey, maybe we can make it to Christmas
She asked me what I wished for on my wishlist
Have you ever asked your bitch for other bitches?
Maybe we could still make it to the church steps
But first, you gon' remember how to forget
After all these long-ass verses
I'm tired, you tired, Jesus wept

[Bridge: Charlie Wilson]
I know you're tired of loving, of loving
With nobody to love, nobody, nobody
Just grab somebody, no leaving this party
With nobody to love, nobody, nobody (Uh-huh, honey)

[Bridge: Kanye West]
Jerome's in the house, watch your mouth
Jerome's in the house, watch your mouth

[Hook]

In other news, I just saw that The Avett Brothers are playing the national Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Between that and the album of mostly garbage they released this year I think it's safe to say they've officially sold out. I'd do the exact same thing if I was in their shoes, but it's always sad to see a great band go to shit.

Ok, reading through those lyrics... I take it back.

I agree with Jamie. They make absolutely no sense... at all.

So I listened to a few Chvrches songs after seeing them mentioned a few times on shaggybevo. It sounds like some shitty band that the producer of a movie aimed at 15 year old girls would put on the soundtrack if they didn't have the budget for Taylor Swift or Kelly Clarkson. Garbage.

Album of the Year: Jason Isbell
Honorable Mention: The Head and the Heart

Most Overrated Album of 2013: Foxygen

Most Disappointing Album of 2013: Avett Brothers

Most Eagerly Awaited 2014 Release: Old 97s

I couldn't even begin to put together a list.

Fitz & the Tantrums and Head and the Heart were my two favorite albums. Local Natives and Vampire Weekend were up there for me, too. I also really liked What Made Milwaukee Famous.

All in all I think there were a lot of songs I liked from hit and miss albums.

I love the fact that somebody posted a list on the Shaggy Top 10 Albums thread composed entirely of made up bands/albums.

Did not really like Jake Bugg based on the two songs I have heard of his on the radio, but giving the full album a whirl and I see why people gave it high marks.

Been re-visiting some stuff from early in the year and forgot how much I liked a few of these albums, some maybe more than the ones I "officially" submitted to the Shaggy Top 10.

Josh Rouse; The Happiness Waltz - not really your typical singer-songwriter release, but has a mellow folksiness to it (more harmonica than I've heard since Blues Traveler was big). Nice laid-back pop melodies and well-crafted songs.

Hey Marseilles; Lines We Trace - pretty random chamber-pop band that I'm not sure how I discovered. I like their orchestrations a lot - similar to what Muse has done on their latest two albums, but not as pretentious. Very typical NPR kind of band, though I know they connotation there could go either way.

Shout Out Louds; Optica - this is as straightforward as Euro Rock gets - almost Oasis-esque, but lacking the charisma of a Gallagher brother. They do nothing spectacular but their songs are just "good."

Ra Ra Riot; Beta Love - yet another dance pop band, as if we need more of those. But they write some good songs. "Dance With Me" was one of my favorites from 2013.

Parquet Courts - these guys seem to show up on every other "best of" list, but I wasn't really as enamored with their record. It's good, and I enjoyed my re-listen yesterday, but after a while it feels like they're just doing the same thing over and over. I liked it but I don't see myself coming back to it five years from now.

Widowspeak; Almanac - i seem to be drawn to mellow, chick-fronted indie pop the last year or so. Here is a disgustingly pretentious review of theirs from Pitchfork that sadly does a better job than me in describing their sound. Though if I just read the review I'd avoid the record like Leonard avoids general couth, but having listened to and enjoyed the album, it resonates.

Joy Formidable; Wolf's Law - Also chick-fronted indie pop, but nothing resembling mellow, save for a few intros. It may be a little overproduced, but the driving guitar riffs and harmonic vocals on "This Ladder is Ours" were some of my favorite musical bits of the year

...to be continued...

BTW... albums from artists I tyopically like that I thought were dogshit...

Frightened Rabbit - zzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzz
Ben Harper - actually, I don't get the allure, but I know he's popular and seems to be Mr. ACL, but this was absolute crap
Big Boi - maybe not dogshit, but I tried a few times and couldn't get into it. Nowhere near what he did on the previous album.
Jim james - seriously, "Regions of Light and Sound and more Unnecessary Words for the Too-Long Album Name" may be the most unnecessary album name outside of Foxygen. Another mediocre My Morning Jacket offering would have been much preferable, IMO. Or a Monsters of Folk follow-up.
The Strokes - their last album had "Under Cover of Darkness" (great f'ing song, btw) and not much more. This lacks anything close to that.
The Knife - Was not familiar with them, but this cheesy electronic pile of nordic dung made me want to take a knife and vincent van gogh myself
Kid Cudi - awful. just awful.
Cold War Kids - just don't really get them, though I should say I didn't give this album much of a chance
Queens of the Stone Age - See: Cold War Kids
Portugal. The Man - that period in their name annoys me, and so do their anti-God songs. I liked their last album and I wanted to like this, but when they go all Pat Ennis on song after song it just turns me off
Surfer Blood - there's always a time and place for good surf music, but I don't know what the hell happened to these guys on this record, which was a disappointment after their strong debut a few years ago
Smith Westerns - see: Surfer Blood. Ugh.
MGMT - For a band that made three really good songs on a pretty solid album 4-5 years ago, they have fallen off since... I'd rather read Jeremy tell us all how stupid we are than listen to this album
Drake - Eh.... pass
Eminem - I seem to have the opposite of the popular opinion on his last two albums... I thought the previous one was good and this was boring, forced (misplaced?) anger. There is nothing about it that seems genuine to me, and while he spits it as well as ever, I lost interest in hearing it.
Arcade Fire - was a double disc really necessary? I haven't tried getting into this much, as it just seems like an effort I'm not willing to put in.
