Re: Current TV Programming

I just finished it last night... thought it was a slog and not sure I'm interested enough to watch a second season. The main guy is irritating as hell and Tench's growing combativeness/hostility about the work they're doing got old around episode 7.

Everything Sucks was great.

Re: Have to be honest...

To me, I don’t see why AR-15s are legal. But yeah, if it isn’t that they will just move on to the next biggest and baddest. The issue is that everyone knew this kid was capable of this but yet did nothing to stop it. The grandmother in Washington that read her grandson’s journal is a hero. More sho...

Re: Have to be honest...

I'm not saying that it's not alarming, or even downright scary. I'm saying that no one in position to decrease gun deaths in this country is actively working toward a viable solution. And FWIW... auto fatalities are 3X that of gun-related homicides (about 30K v. 10K in 2012, according to numbers I p...

Re: Have to be honest...

IMO the "Is it time to finally have a conversation?" crowd doesn't really want to have a conversation. They want to ban all guns because they think (a) it's possible in a country of 300M+, and (b) that is going to magically stop mass shootings. The other side just responds with asinine str...

Re: NBA Franchise Pecking Order

Where does "bigger picture" end though? Spurs have been fortunate to have D-Rob, Duncan, and now Kawhi to carry the mantle (and are no better than third-best in the West with Kawhi, much less without him right now); Duncan was the constant in all of the titles. Mavs have waned as Dirk has ...

Re: NBA Franchise Pecking Order

No real rules to speak of. Funny, I didn't initially have OKC. I added them right before I hit submit because I thought the first comment would be, "where are the Thunder?". Only real rationale was that they went to the finals and have been something of a thorn in San Antonio's side, and t...

NBA Franchise Pecking Order

Doing a partial knee-jerk only... Kings: Celtics, Lakers Barons: Bulls, Heat, Spurs, Cavs, Warriors, Thunder (all based on recent success/runs) If the Rockets can unseat the Warriors in the West this year they join the Barons tier. The Knights consists of anyone that has played in the finals at leas...

NFL Franchise Pecking Order

Since everyone jumped into the discussion about MLB I thought I'd do it for NFL as well. Knee-jerk tiers... Kings: Dallas, Denver, GB, NE, NY Giants, Pittsburgh, San Fran, Washington Barons: Chicago, KC, Miami, Minnesota, Oakland, Philly, Seattle Knights: Atlanta, Baltimore, Buffalo, Carolina, Indy,...

Re: MLB Franchise Pecking Order

Mainly from the standpoint that for 30 years (92-12) they finished higher than 3rd one time. That dry spell was book-ended by two separate runs where they couldn't get over the hump, and now they've blown it up again, with no real reason to think they're going to be competitive any time soon. For a t...

MLB Franchise Pecking Order

Thought this might be a fun discussion topic as we get closer to Spring Training. Not sure how familiar any of you are with Stewart Mandel's "Program Pecking Order" bit that he first did in 07 and then updated twice since, but he essentially took all D1 college football programs and assign...

The Ringer Bags on A&M

Catching up on some articles I flagged and The Ringer did a series of Tim Riggins-focused pieces to mark Taylor Kitch's new Waco miniseries. My favorite was a round table on where Riggins might have best fit in as a college player . I thought this exchange about our maroon-clad colleagues was great....

2018 New Music

I was disappointed in the half-hearted attempt I made to check out new stuff in 2017 so trying to do better this year. Here are two albums I really liked in January: Sidney Gish , No Dogs Allowed - Just your standard 20-year-old college student penning whimsical pop ditties about all of the life exp...

World Champions 2018 Thread

Where Jamie and I just talk back and forth.

Do the Astros repeat?

When do Whitley and Tucker debut?

Does Bukauskas come up as an SP or RP?

Can Marwin repeat as baseball's best utility man?

MVP: Altuve or Correa?

How much more can we love this team?

How much more WS gear do we buy?

Our Oscars prep continues tonight with Three Billboards.

K saw Shape of Water last weekend while I was watching football, so if I see that I'll have to catch it by myself.
